Recently, I purchased a course from a guy named Brent Price, of Trading Essentials. The series of events that led me to make the purchase is as follows:
I was searching Google for information on stock market trading courses and came across the Trading Essentials advertisement. The initial speel only offers you some free information in the mail, so that was easy. I filled out the online request and a few days later, the sales information arrived. It was filled with amazing promises about “things never revealed before” and “with only $1,000 you can replace your income” etc etc.
The part that got me in was “things never revealed before”. Now I’ve been a short term stock market trader for about five years and have read a lot of stuff, so this intrigued me. “What could this new secret that Brent Price offered, possibly be?” I thought.
Finally, I came to the “Get Started Right Now” order page. It’s a separate sheet with a big heading across the top saying “Risk Free Trial”. It goes on … “I understand I have a full 60 day ‘No Questions Asked’ Money-back Guarantee”. With that in mind and curious about what his secret might be, I decided to purchase the book, believing that I could always return it if there was nothing extraordinary about it.
Ah … but you have to read the fine print!
You won’t find it on the Order Page, but if you look around the Trading Essentials website, you’ll find a clause in his “Terms and Conditions” that says that refunds will only be made if the goods are returns in “re-saleable condition”. I checked out a few forums and noticed one post at this link (relevant comments near bottom of the page)
Someone was telling his story about how he returned the goods but received them back with the claim that they were “not in re-saleable condition”. I assumed he had marked them in some way. So I thought to myself “Ok, I’ll make sure I keep them in exactly the condition I received them, in case I need to return them”. Silly me!
In due time, I received the Trading Essentials package in the mail. It consist of 3 paperback (hear that word?) volumes. The first is a general introduction to the Stock Market, the second introduces you to options trading and the third volume is where he reveals his “secret” - purchase “Smart Investor” magazine each month and buy call options on the stocks that it recommends are going to rise – you rely on its many readers and the “going with the crowd” thing.
I didn’t feel that information was worth the $497 price tag, so I decided to return the books to Trading Essentials. Then the ‘fun’ started. I waited over a week with no response, so sent an email, asking about the refund. Brent Price wrote back saying he would “look into it”. Still nothing. About two weeks later, they withdrew the second instalment (you have a two-instalment option) from my bank account. I was on the phone to them a few times, but unfortunately, Brent Price was never around and I could only deal with his receptionist. To this day I have never heard his voice. Finally, a month later, I received the goods back in the mail with a note saying they were being returned because they were “not in re-saleable condition”.
Now I was angry!
Being paperback volumes, I noticed there was a small crease on each of the book spines. This was the only thing I could fault with them. Not a mark anywhere else. In fact, I had noticed that crease when the books first arrived, but who can prove anything? I know this, that I returned the goods in EXACTLY the condition I received them.
So I’m making this post to warn potential buyers of the Trading Essentials product… if you want the information Brent Price offers, go ahead – but expect to keep it!
Personally, I believe this is sly dealing. If you offer a “Risk Free Trial” and a “no questions asked money-back guarantee” you should be prepared to honour it.
Feel free to post a comment if you’ve had a similar experience. Maybe some current affairs TV program will pick up on this. I’m not even sure if Brent Price is his real name. It also just happens to be the same name as a crude oil index :)

Hi there I bought the trading essentials course about 3 years ago I didnt experience what you did instead I did the opposite I kept the course materials and stop my payments so he didnt get paid from me and his books i kept his secrets
Hi,
I work as a trader for a large bank and know all the legal aspects of these type of dog investments. If you want your money back then threaten to go to the regulators. In Australia it is ASIC or FICS. I managed to get 10K back for a friend for a similar company. They can not deal with an enquiry. Also contact the magazine.
Hope this helps,
Just Me
Nice one Norma
I had the exact same experience with Brent Allan Price and his trading essentials course. DONT ORDER IT IF YOU DONT PLAN ON KEEPING IT. His money back guarantee is outright fraud! I returned the course within 24 hours of receival, once I discovered that its claims are lies. Lesson here goggle something before paying for it. I had Consumer Affairs veiw the condition of the course and attach a cover note, to state ‘re-sellable’ condition (Brents denial of refund clause). Guess what no response from the very unreputable mr Price. No reply to emails and phone number that is disconnected. If you purchase this course and dont want to keep it, then do a ‘charge back’ if bought using a credit card. The banks will do this and know how Brent opperates. An investigation takes place and if all goes well like my experience, you will be credited back the purchase price. Brent Allan Price has had 2 ABN numbers cancelled and has now been flagged by Consumer Affairs in Victoria as a fraud. He does not give an address for any correspondence or dispute resoloution, just a P.O Box address which should ring alarm bells first off! Brent Allan Price is a scam artist and should be avoided. Hope this will help others.
I bought the trading essentials course. I didn’t have much prior knowledge about trading. I rung Brent Price and he was very easy to get hold of and happy to talk about his course and setting up a payment plan. He then mentioned that I can call him for any further advice on placing orders in the future. This appealed to me to get some reassurance from an experienced trader. I received the course and I found it useful but a bit pricy for what it was. When I wanted to ring about some advice about placing orders he didn’t return my calls and became very difficult to get hold of. It is quite easy to obtain the same information in the course from various websites. However, I quite like the course as it is really easy to understand and in a hard copy. This makes it a good reference. Just don’t expect to get hold of him again once you make your purchase.
This guy is a dishonest sack of shit. I bought the program and called first to speak to someone only to be reassured that I have 60 days to return the product and haved a full refund. When I called for my refund I was stalled for weeks and weeks only to be finally told that I had now exceeded the 60 time frame which is dishonest because I was calling for 3 to 4 weeks prior. I contacted consumer affairs and discovered that in W.A where he operates the laws are different. The moeny is not large but the principal leaves a bad taste long after accepting being downright scammed. Aus is too small to hide Brent especially when people like me don’t forget these things and know where you live.
I bought the Trading Essentials course about 3 years ago. I’ve spoken to Brent Price on a few occassions, and have found him and his staff to be very helpful. When I was looking to get started trading, I did some research, and actually found a lot of good comments written about Brent along with his course. While their were a couple of negative comments from a couple of disgruntled customers, there were lots more who were saying how happy they were. Anyhow, I decided to give it a go, and took up the pay as you go option just in case I wasnt happy, and couldnt get a refund, then I thought that I could at least stop the payments from my end. But I was very happy with the course, and thought that it was well worth the money. I’ve learned a lot from Brents course, and am glad that I got it. I’m sorry to hear about the bad experience from the four of you on this site.
Hi folks, just to WARN you again. Brent (Dick) Price is a big fraud and his new editions which are called INSTANT CASHFLOW is the same material as the previous courses, just a different name. I had the same problem. Never got my money back. May it is a lesson that this is how people make money on stock market.
